Is Self-Love Scary?

The benefits of Self-Love are touted all over the internet, TV, and everywhere you turn today.

  • Gain self-confidence!
  • Live with joy!
  • Trust your intuition!
  • Attract better relationships!

You get the idea… But that level of awesomeness scares the crap out of some people. Especially people who don’t particularly like who they are right now.

I’ve had clients tell me they don’t believe they can ever achieve Self-Love, and they’re honestly not sure they want to try.

(***Insert SCREECHING BREAKS sound effect here***)

The first time I heard a client say she she wasn’t interested in Self-Love, because it wasn’t attainable, I was speechless.

But then I heard it again. And again. And again. So now’s the time for me to speak up.

Everyone (let me say it again)

EVERYONE can achieve Self-Love. I promise.

I can’t promise it’ll happen tomorrow or that you won’t experience ups and downs. Taking time to earn love and respect is a normal thing in every relationship. Ups and downs are to be expected. Newsflash: Self-Love is a relationship with yourself. If that relationship doesn’t already have a firm foundation, it can take time and effort to build.

If you’re one of the people who thinks Self-Love is scary, or believes it’s so far away it can’t possibly be attainable, I have a challenge for you:

Start a brand new relationship with yourself.

This may sound crazy, but pretend you’ve never met yourself and start from scratch. Journal about what you like and value. Talk about your dreams and desires – even if you think those aren’t attainable either. Have fun being creative.

Next, you can move on from the small-talk journal phase, and start courting yourself. Make a commitment to speaking kindly to your new friend. Compliment yourself at least once a day, even if it’s about something silly. (“Nice job putting on pants, today, Jen,” is completely acceptable… and if it makes you giggle, you get bonus points.)

As you get to know yourself and like yourself a bit more, you’ll feel closer to budding love. You’ll feel more committed to loving the person that you are. Eventually, you will build up to appreciating the light and the shadow within.

The path to Self-Love can be easy for some, or long and messy for others. No matter how you get there, the rewards are fantastic and well worth the journey. (Refer to the bullets at the top of this post.)

If you want Self-Love, but struggle to get there on your own, coaching with me is a great way to tap into the deeper aspects of the Self, and uncover the secrets of your Soul.

No one (let me say it again)

NO ONE has an un-loveable soul. It’s not possible.

You are Love. You are Light. You are a spectacular being, worthy of Self-Love.

Get started on your new relationship with yourself today! If Self-Love seems unattainable, take away the pressure. Start with “Self-Friendship”.
